Pastéis – Small Slippers
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of butter
- A pinch of salt
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 cup of diced cooked meat (chicken, beef, or pork)
- 1/2 cup of diced onions
- 1/4 cup of diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup of diced olives
- 1/4 cup of diced parsley
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a small pot, bring the water, butter, and salt to a boil.
- Add the flour and stir until the mixture forms a ball of dough.
- Remove from heat and let the dough cool for a few minutes.
- Mix the egg yolk into the dough and knead until the dough is smooth.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll them out into circles.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the cooked meat, onions, tomatoes, olives, parsley, garlic, salt, and black pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each circle of dough.
- Close the dough and pinch the edges to seal.
- Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the pastéis until they are golden brown.
- Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
