Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 stick of cold butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 2 cups of your choice of fruit (e.g. blueberries, apples, peaches, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cold butter cubes and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  2. Add ice water into the mixture gradually, stirring until the dough comes together.
  3. Form the dough into a disc shape, wrap it with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll the dough on a floured surface until it’s about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Place the rolled-out dough into a 9-inch pie dish, trimming off any excess dough hanging over the edge.
  6. In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the fruit, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  7. Pour the fruit mixture into the pie crust.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and milk. Brush the edges of the pie crust with the egg wash.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  10. Let the pie cool for 30 minutes before serving.
