Puff Pastry Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter, cold
- 1/2 cup cold water
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the dry mixture. Mix using a fork or pastry blender until the butter is in pea-sized chunks.
- Add the cold water and mix until the dough starts to come together, being careful not to overwork it.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a long rectangle. Fold the top third down towards the middle, then the bottom third up towards the middle, like folding a letter.
- Rotate the dough a quarter turn and roll it out again into a long rectangle. Repeat the folding process two more times, chilling the dough in the fridge for 10 minutes between each fold if it becomes too warm.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before using in your desired recipe.
Verdict:
Making puff pastry is a labor of love, but the flaky, buttery results are well worth the effort. This recipe produces a rich, sturdy dough that can be used for pastries, tarts, and more.
