Puff pastry

Puff Pastry Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, cold
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the dry mixture. Mix using a fork or pastry blender until the butter is in pea-sized chunks.
  3. Add the cold water and mix until the dough starts to come together, being careful not to overwork it.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a long rectangle. Fold the top third down towards the middle, then the bottom third up towards the middle, like folding a letter.
  5. Rotate the dough a quarter turn and roll it out again into a long rectangle. Repeat the folding process two more times, chilling the dough in the fridge for 10 minutes between each fold if it becomes too warm.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before using in your desired recipe.

Verdict:

Making puff pastry is a labor of love, but the flaky, buttery results are well worth the effort. This recipe produces a rich, sturdy dough that can be used for pastries, tarts, and more.

Serving Suggestions:

Use your homemade puff pastry to create savory dishes like beef Wellington or chicken pot pie, or indulge in sweet treats like Napoleons or raspberry turnovers. The options are endless!
