Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • Parchment paper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C)
  2. Unroll the puff pastry sheets onto a floured surface and stack them on top of each other.
  3. Cut the pastry into a tree shape, making it wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. Reserve the scraps.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  5. Spread the chocolate onto the puff pastry tree, leaving 1/4 inch (6mm) border around the edges.
  6. Cut the reserved scraps into thin strips and use them to create the tree branches. Press them onto the tree.
  7. Whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash.
  8. Brush the egg wash onto the edges of the puff pastry tree.
  9. Bake the tree for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
  10. Serve warm or at room temperature.
