Shortcrust Pastry with Hazelnuts Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 175g plain flour
  • 75g chopped hazelnuts
  • 100g unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 40g caster sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1-2 tbsp cold water

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) gas mark 4.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and chopped hazelnuts together.
  3. Add the cubed butter and rub together with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  4. Add the caster sugar and egg yolk, and mix together until it forms a dough.
  5. Add 1-2 tbsp of cold water if necessary to bring the dough together.
  6. Knead the dough lightly and roll out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  7. Use the pastry to line a 23cm tart tin and trim the edges.
  8. Prick the base with a fork and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
