Shortcrust Pastry with Hazelnuts Recipe
Ingredients:
- 175g plain flour
- 75g chopped hazelnuts
- 100g unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 40g caster sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1-2 tbsp cold water
Method:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) gas mark 4.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and chopped hazelnuts together.
- Add the cubed butter and rub together with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Add the caster sugar and egg yolk, and mix together until it forms a dough.
- Add 1-2 tbsp of cold water if necessary to bring the dough together.
- Knead the dough lightly and roll out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Use the pastry to line a 23cm tart tin and trim the edges.
- Prick the base with a fork and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
