Spelled biscuits: healthy recipe

Spelt Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups spelt flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together spelt flour, baking powder, sea salt, and cinnamon (if using).
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together coconut oil and maple syrup until smooth. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookies cutters.
  5. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven and let the biscuits cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Store the spelt biscuits in an airtight container for up to a week.

Verdict:

These spelt biscuits are a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional biscuits. They are made with spelt flour, which is higher in protein and lower in gluten than regular wheat flour. They are also sweetened with maple syrup instead of refined sugar. The coconut oil gives them a nice, subtle coconut flavor. Feel free to experiment with different add-ins, like dried fruit, nuts, or chocolate chips.

Serving Suggestions:

These spelt biscuits are perfect for a healthy snack or breakfast on the go. Serve with a cup of coffee or tea, or spread with nut butter for a more filling snack. They are also great for kids’ lunchboxes or as a homemade gift for friends and family. Enjoy!
