Spinach and Cumin Turnovers Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of spinach leaves, chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 pack of puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Take a pan and add olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  3. Add cumin and chilli powder, salt, and chopped spinach to the pan. Cook everything together for 2-3 minutes, until the spinach is cooked and the mixture has become slightly dry.
  4. Take the puff pastry out of the packet and roll it into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry sheet into 4 equal parts.
  5. Place the equal portions of spinach mixture onto one half of each pastry rectangle. Cover the mixture with the other half of the pastry and press the edges together, using a fork to crimp the edges shut.
  6. Brush the turnovers with beaten egg and make two slits on the top of each turnover using a sharp knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
