Tchak-chak – Treat


Tchak-chak Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of honey
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, eggs, baking powder, and warm water. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  2. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth, then let the dough rest for about 30 to 40 minutes.
  3. Cut the dough into small pieces, and roll each one of them into thin tubes about a quarter inch in diameter.
  4. Cut the tubes into small pieces about 1/2 inch long. Repeat with the rest of the dough until it’s all been cut and rolled.
  5. In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until hot. Carefully fry the dough pieces until they turn golden brown in color. Remove them from the oil with a slotted spoon, and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain the excess oil.
  6. In a different saucepan, melt the butter while stirring constantly. Add honey and sugar to the pan and stir until the mixture becomes bubbly and caramelized.
  7. Add the fried dough pieces to the saucepan and stir until they are fully coated with the honey mixture.
  8. Remove the pan from heat and let the tchak-chak cool down a bit. Then, transfer it onto a serving dish and serve it to your guests.
