Tchak-chak Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup of honey
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of butter
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 tsp of baking powder
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, eggs, baking powder, and warm water. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a clean cloth, then let the dough rest for about 30 to 40 minutes.
- Cut the dough into small pieces, and roll each one of them into thin tubes about a quarter inch in diameter.
- Cut the tubes into small pieces about 1/2 inch long. Repeat with the rest of the dough until it’s all been cut and rolled.
- In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until hot. Carefully fry the dough pieces until they turn golden brown in color. Remove them from the oil with a slotted spoon, and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain the excess oil.
- In a different saucepan, melt the butter while stirring constantly. Add honey and sugar to the pan and stir until the mixture becomes bubbly and caramelized.
- Add the fried dough pieces to the saucepan and stir until they are fully coated with the honey mixture.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the tchak-chak cool down a bit. Then, transfer it onto a serving dish and serve it to your guests.
