The Upside Down Pie – Régal
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Generously grease a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a small saucepan, melt butter and mix in sugar. Raise heat to high and stir constantly until the mixture turns into a caramel sauce. Quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of the pie dish.
- Arrange the sliced apples over the caramel in the bottom of the dish, forming a even layer.
- Carefully unroll the pastry sheet and place it over the apples, tucking any excess pastry into the edges of the pie dish.
- Bake the pie for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes, then invert it onto a serving plate.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
Verdict:
A simple and elegant dessert that looks like it took hours to create. The caramel sauce adds a depth of flavor to the sweet apples, and the buttery puff pastry brings everything together. Highly recommended for a special occasion or a cozy night in.
