Vanilla Crispy Arlettes Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Instructions:
- Cream together butter and 1/2 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Mix in egg and vanilla extract until well blended.
- In another bowl, mix together flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Mix until well combined. Dough will be slightly crumbly at this stage. Gently knead the dough by hand for a few minutes until it comes together.
- Divide the dough into 2 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one of the dough disks into a large rectangle, about 1/16 inch thickness.
- Sprinkle the surface of the rolled out dough with 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Lightly press it to adhere the sugar to the dough.
- Using a sharp knife or pastry cutter, cut the dough into strips that are 1 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches long.
- Starting at a short end, tightly roll up each strip like a cigar. Place each cigar-shaped strip seam side down onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a minute before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
