Apple turnovers – Delicious

Apple Turnovers

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets)
  • 3 apples, peeled, cored, and diced into small pieces
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar, for sprinkling on top

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir until the apples are coated and the sugar has dissolved. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the apples are tender. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.
  4. Place 2 tablespoons of apple filling on one side of each square. Fold the other half over the filling and seal the edges with a fork, pressing down gently. Repeat with the remaining squares.
  5. Transfer the turnovers to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each turnover with beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sugar on top.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the turnovers are golden brown and puffed.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestion:

Apple turnovers are best served warm, straight out of the oven, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They make a delicious dessert or breakfast treat!
