Banana tart tatin: gourmet recipe

Banana Tart Tatin Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 puff pastry sheet, thawed

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel the bananas and cut them in half crosswise.
  3. In a 9-inch skillet or oven-safe pan, melt the sugar over medium heat. Cook until the sugar melts into a golden brown caramel, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove the pan from heat and stir in the butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Make sure the butter has completely melted and is well combined with the caramel.
  5. Arrange the banana halves over the caramel mixture in the skillet, cut side down.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface to fit the size of the skillet or pan. Place the pastry on top of the bananas and tuck in the edges so that they are flush with the edges of the skillet.
  7. Using a sharp knife, make several slits on the surface of the pastry to allow steam to escape.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
  10. Place a large serving plate over the skillet and carefully turn the tart out onto the plate. If any bananas or caramel are stuck to the skillet, simply scrape them out and place them back on top of the pastry.
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy!
