Beaufort and Onion Turnovers Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 200g Beaufort cheese, grated
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- In a frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent.
- Add the brown sugar, salt and black pepper, and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes until the onion caramelizes and becomes golden brown. Remove the pan from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into 4 equal squares.
- Divide the caramelized onions among the 4 squares of puff pastry, placing the onions in the center of each square. Top each square with grated Beaufort cheese and chopped parsley.
- Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the edges of the puff pastry squares with the beaten egg.
- Fold the squares in half, forming a triangle shape. Use a fork to press down on the edges of the pastry to seal the filling inside.
- Brush the tops of the turnovers with the remaining beaten egg.
- Place the turnovers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the turnovers to a wire rack to cool for a few minutes before serving.
