Ceviche: a traditional Peruvian recipe

Ceviche Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. of fresh white fish (tilapia, cod, or sea bass)
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup of chopped cilantro
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Cut the fish fillets into small bite-sized pieces and place in a large glass or ceramic bowl.
  2. Add the diced red onion, lime juice, lemon juice, cilantro, jalapeño, garlic, salt, and black pepper to the bowl and mix well.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the fish to marinate, stirring occasionally.
  4. Serve the ceviche chilled with tortilla chips, avocado slices, and additional cilantro as garnish.

Verdict: Ceviche is a refreshing and healthy dish that is perfect for summer gatherings or as an appetizer. The acidity from the lime and lemon juice “cooks” the fish without the use of heat, resulting in a flavorful and tender dish.
