Grapefruit with avocado and basil

Grapefruit with Avocado and Basil Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large grapefruit
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3-4 basil leaves, torn into small pieces
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cut the top and bottom off the grapefruit and slice off the skin and pith, exposing the flesh.
  2. Working over a bowl, segment the grapefruit using a sharp knife. First, cut alongside the white membrane on one side of a segment, then cut alongside the other side of the membrane to free the segment from the fruit. Repeat with the remaining segments and remove any seeds that have come loose.
  3. Cut the avocado in half lengthwise, remove the pit, and slice the flesh lengthwise into thin slices.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil and lemon juice, then season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Add the basil leaves to the bowl with the grapefruit segments and avocado slices, then pour the dressing over the top.
  6. Gently toss the ingredients together until well combined, then divide the salad between two plates or bowls.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with additional basil leaves if desired.

Verdict:

This grapefruit with avocado and basil salad is fresh, light, and packed with flavor. The tangy sweetness of the grapefruit pairs perfectly with the rich creaminess of the avocado, while the basil adds a hint of freshness and depth. Serve it as a refreshing appetizer or light lunch, and enjoy the burst of bright citrus flavors!

Serving Suggestions:

  • Pair with grilled chicken or shrimp for a complete meal.
  • Serve as a side dish with grilled fish or steak.
