Hazelnut Shortcrust Pastry Recipe
Ingredients:
- 250g plain flour
- 125g unsalted butter, cubed
- 65g hazelnuts, finely chopped
- 1 egg yolk
- 1-2 tbsp cold water
- Pinch of salt
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan or gas mark 4).
- Place the flour, salt and cubed butter into a bowl and rub together using your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add the finely chopped hazelnuts to the mixture and stir well.
- Add the egg yolk and 1-2 tablespoons of cold water to the mixture and stir until it forms a dough. Don’t overwork the dough.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to the desired thickness and use it to line a greased 20cm tart tin.
- Trim the edges and prick the base of the pastry all over with a fork.
- Bake the pastry in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Remove the pastry from the oven and allow it to cool completely before filling it with your desired filling.
