Limoncello (Lemon-flavored liqueur)

Limoncello Recipe

Limoncello is a classic Italian liqueur that’s bursting with tangy, citrusy flavor. Made with freshly zested lemons, this simple recipe is perfect for sipping on a hot summer day.

Ingredients:

  • 10 lemons
  • 1 liter of vodka or 100-proof grain alcohol
  • 4 cups of water
  • 3 cups of granulated sugar

Directions:

  1. Wash the lemons thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Use a vegetable peeler to remove only the yellow skin, leaving the bitter white pith behind.
  2. Add the vodka or grain alcohol to a large glass jar. Add the lemon peels and seal the jar tightly. Let the mixture steep in a cool, dry place for at least a week but up to four weeks.
  3. After the mixture is done steeping, strain out the lemon peels and set the infused alcohol aside.
  4. In a large pot, bring the water and sugar to a boil until the sugar completely dissolves. Set it aside to cool completely.
  5. Add the infused alcohol to the cooled sugar syrup mixture and stir well. Transfer the limoncello to airtight bottles and chill in the freezer before serving.

Serving Suggestions:

Limoncello can be served straight-up, over ice, or mixed into a refreshing cocktail. It’s best enjoyed icy cold, directly from the freezer or served with a slice of lemon as a garnish.

Verdict:

This homemade Limoncello recipe is simple to make and packs a flavorful punch. It’s the perfect drink to serve your guests after any meal or to enjoy as a light, refreshing summer drink.
