Limoncello Recipe
Limoncello is a classic Italian liqueur that’s bursting with tangy, citrusy flavor. Made with freshly zested lemons, this simple recipe is perfect for sipping on a hot summer day.
Ingredients:
- 10 lemons
- 1 liter of vodka or 100-proof grain alcohol
- 4 cups of water
- 3 cups of granulated sugar
Directions:
- Wash the lemons thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Use a vegetable peeler to remove only the yellow skin, leaving the bitter white pith behind.
- Add the vodka or grain alcohol to a large glass jar. Add the lemon peels and seal the jar tightly. Let the mixture steep in a cool, dry place for at least a week but up to four weeks.
- After the mixture is done steeping, strain out the lemon peels and set the infused alcohol aside.
- In a large pot, bring the water and sugar to a boil until the sugar completely dissolves. Set it aside to cool completely.
- Add the infused alcohol to the cooled sugar syrup mixture and stir well. Transfer the limoncello to airtight bottles and chill in the freezer before serving.
Serving Suggestions:
Limoncello can be served straight-up, over ice, or mixed into a refreshing cocktail. It’s best enjoyed icy cold, directly from the freezer or served with a slice of lemon as a garnish.
