Marinated Herring-Style Salmon
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. salmon fillet, skin-on
- 2 tbsp. salt
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small carrot, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
- Slices of rye bread, for serving
Instructions:
- Begin by cleaning and de-boning the salmon fillet, leaving the skin on. Rinse the salmon until there are no more visible scales.
- Place the salmon in a large shallow dish and sprinkle with salt, sugar, and black pepper. Rub the seasoning into the fish evenly.
- In a small bowl, whisk together white vinegar and water. Pour the marinade over the salmon fillet until it is fully covered. Add onion, carrot, and dill to the marinade.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours. Flip the fish a few times during the marinating process to ensure full flavor absorption.
- When ready to serve, remove the salmon from the marinade and discard the vegetables and liquid.
- Slice the salmon at a slight angle into thin portions. Serve with slices of rye bread and additional fresh dill, if desired.
Verdict:
This marinated herring-style salmon recipe is a delicious and easy way to enjoy fresh salmon. The tangy and slightly sweet marinade, combined with fresh dill, complements the rich salmon flavor perfectly. Serve as an appetizer or as a light lunch with bread and salad.
