Salmon maki: reblochon recipe

Salmon Maki with Reblochon Cheese Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 sheets of Nori seaweed
  • 1 1/2 cups of sushi rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/3 cup of rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 8 ounces of fresh salmon, thinly sliced
  • 4 ounces of reblochon cheese, sliced
  • Soy sauce and wasabi, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Start by preparing the sushi rice. Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Lower the heat and let the rice simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the water has been absorbed. Remove the rice from the heat and let it sit, covered, for at least 10 minutes.
  2. While the rice is cooking, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small pot. Heat the mixture until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool.
  3. When the rice has finished cooking, transfer it to a large mixing bowl. Add the vinegar mixture to the rice and blend it in gently with a wooden spoon until evenly distributed.
  4. Place one sheet of Nori seaweed on a bamboo mat (with the shiny side facing down). On the top third of the Nori sheet, spoon about 1/2 cup of the seasoned sushi rice. Wet your fingers with water and spread the rice evenly over the Nori, leaving a 1-inch border of Nori on the top edge.
  5. Place a few slices of salmon and reblochon cheese on top of the rice in a single line.
  6. Roll the bamboo mat tightly, while pressing down gently with your hands. Dampen the border of the Nori at the top edge with water to seal the roll. Continue to roll the mat until the entire sheet of Nori is used up. Repeat the steps above until the rice is used up.
  7. With a sharp knife, slice the roll into about 8 pieces per roll.
  8. Serve the maki rolls with soy sauce and wasabi.

Verdict:

This salmon maki with reblochon cheese recipe is a unique twist on traditional sushi. The savory taste of the reblochon adds a creamy richness to the fresh salmon, while the soy sauce and wasabi provide a kick of flavor. These maki rolls are perfect as an appetizer or light lunch.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Pair the salmon maki with a light salad or seaweed salad for a balanced meal.
  • Serve alongside traditional sushi rolls or nigiri for a sushi platter with a variety of flavors.
