Sicilian Sweet Orange Jam Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 lbs sweet oranges
- 1 ½ lbs granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Wash and dry the oranges well. Cut off the top and bottom of each orange and slice them into thin rounds.
- Remove the seeds from the orange slices and set them aside.
- Add orange slices, sugar, water, and lemon juice to a large pot or Dutch oven and mix well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 1 ½ to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and reaches the desired jam consistency.
- While the mixture is simmering, skim off any foam that forms on the surface and discard. You can also use a hand blender to puree the mixture for a smoother jam consistency.
- When the jam has reached the desired consistency, remove from heat and transfer to sterilized jars.
