Tarte Tatin with Dates
Ingredients:
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 8-10 medjool dates, pitted and halved lengthwise
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Melt the butter in a 9-inch oven-proof skillet over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and ginger. Pour the mixture over the melted butter and stir until evenly distributed.
- Add the halved dates to the skillet, cut side down, and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the sugar mixture is bubbling and the dates are caramelized.
- Remove the skillet from heat and let cool for a few minutes. Carefully lay the sheet of puff pastry over the top of the skillet and tuck the edges around the dates. Cut a few small slits in the pastry to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes. Carefully invert onto a serving plate so the dates are now on top.
Verdict:
This twist on a classic French dessert is sure to please any sweet tooth. The combination of rich, caramelized dates and flaky, buttery puff pastry is heavenly. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat.
Serving Suggestions:
