Tempura and Asparagus Fritters Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound asparagus spears, woody ends trimmed
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 cup ice water
- Vegetable oil for frying
Directions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan over medium-high heat.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Gradually add in the ice water and whisk until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- Dip the asparagus spears into the batter, shaking off any excess and place them gently into the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the fritters from the oil with a slotted spoon and let them drain onto a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve them alongside your favorite dipping sauce.
