Tiramisu with Dragees and Maple Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup dragees (candy coated chocolate balls)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Whisk in milk and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 7-10 minutes.
  2. Transfer mixture to a large bowl and let cool to room temperature, stirring occasionally. In a mixing bowl, beat cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form. Fold whipped cream into the cooled egg yolk mixture.
  3. In another bowl, beat mascarpone cheese until smooth, then fold it into the whipped cream mixture until fully combined.
  4. In a shallow dish, mix together coffee and coffee liqueur. Dip each ladyfinger cookie in the coffee mixture until soaked but not too soggy. Arrange soaked ladyfingers in a single layer in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight. Before serving, drizzle maple syrup over the top of the tiramisu, and sprinkle with dragees.
