Zebra Popsicles with Melting Chocolate Recipe

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Black food coloring

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the heavy cream and whole milk over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is steaming hot but not boiling.
  2. While the milk mixture heats up, melt the chocolate chips and unsalted butter in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate or it will become grainy.
  3. Once the chocolate mixture has melted, remove it from the heat and set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Once the milk mixture is hot, gradually pour it into the bowl with the sugar mixture, whisking constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
  5. Take out a small amount of the mixture (about a tablespoon) and add black food coloring to it. Stir well.
  6. Fill the popsicle molds halfway with the unstained mixture. Add a small amount of the black mixture on top of the white mixture. Repeat with more white mixture and more black mixture until the molds are full.
  7. Insert the popsicle sticks and transfer the molds to the freezer. Freeze for at least 6 hours or until the popsicles are frozen solid.
  8. To serve, remove the zebra popsicles from the molds by running them under warm water for a few seconds. Drizzle chocolate sauce or melted chocolate over the tops of the popsicles for a melting chocolate effect.
