Crispy Camembert Millefeuille
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
- 200g Camembert cheese, sliced
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle, about 25x15cm.
- Cut the pastry into 3 equal strips and put them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Prick each strip several times with a fork and brush with beaten egg.
- Bake for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs, flour, salt and pepper.
- Dip each slice of Camembert into the milk then coat them in the breadcrumb mixture.
- In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, fry the Camembert slices until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes each side.
- Remove the Camembert slices from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
- To assemble the millefeuille, place one pastry strip on your serving plate and arrange some of the Camembert slices on top.
- Repeat with the other pastry strips and Camembert slices, finishing with a strip of pastry on top.
- You can also garnish with fresh herbs or a drizzle of honey, if desired.
- Serve immediately while the Camembert is still hot and gooey.
