Tarte tatin

Tarte Tatin Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and cored
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Melt the sugar in a 9-inch oven-safe skillet over medium heat until it turns into a golden-brown caramel.
  3. Add the butter to the caramel and stir until it’s fully melted. Remove the skillet from heat.
  4. Arrange the apples in the skillet, tightly packed in concentric circles with their rounded sides facing down. Drizzle lemon juice over them.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry sheet so it’s slightly larger than the skillet. Cover the apples with the pastry, tucking the edges in around the apples.
  6. Bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry has puffed up and turned golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the tart cool for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Run a spatula around the edges of the skillet to loosen the tart, then invert it onto a serving plate.
  9. Serve the tarte tatin warm with vanilla ice cream.
