Tarte Tatin Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and cored
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Melt the sugar in a 9-inch oven-safe skillet over medium heat until it turns into a golden-brown caramel.
- Add the butter to the caramel and stir until it’s fully melted. Remove the skillet from heat.
- Arrange the apples in the skillet, tightly packed in concentric circles with their rounded sides facing down. Drizzle lemon juice over them.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet so it’s slightly larger than the skillet. Cover the apples with the pastry, tucking the edges in around the apples.
- Bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry has puffed up and turned golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let the tart cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Run a spatula around the edges of the skillet to loosen the tart, then invert it onto a serving plate.
- Serve the tarte tatin warm with vanilla ice cream.
