Vanilla tart tatin

Vanilla Tart Tatin Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored and quartered
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a 9-inch heavy skillet, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns amber in color, swirling occasionally.
  3. Add the butter to the skillet and stir until it has melted and combined with the sugar.
  4. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Arrange the apple quarters in the skillet in a circular pattern, rounded side down, fitting them snugly together to cover the bottom of the pan.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 1/8 inch.
  7. Using a knife or cookie cutter, cut the puff pastry into a circle slightly larger than the skillet’s diameter.
  8. Carefully lay the puff pastry over the apples, tucking in any excess pastry around the edges.
  9. Bake the tart for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  10. Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  11. Carefully run a knife around the edge of the skillet to loosen the tart.
  12. Invert a large plate over the skillet and quickly turn the skillet upside down, letting the tart fall onto the plate.
  13. The tart is now ready to serve.
