Vanilla Tart Tatin Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored and quartered
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a 9-inch heavy skillet, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns amber in color, swirling occasionally.
- Add the butter to the skillet and stir until it has melted and combined with the sugar.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Arrange the apple quarters in the skillet in a circular pattern, rounded side down, fitting them snugly together to cover the bottom of the pan.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 1/8 inch.
- Using a knife or cookie cutter, cut the puff pastry into a circle slightly larger than the skillet’s diameter.
- Carefully lay the puff pastry over the apples, tucking in any excess pastry around the edges.
- Bake the tart for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
- Carefully run a knife around the edge of the skillet to loosen the tart.
- Invert a large plate over the skillet and quickly turn the skillet upside down, letting the tart fall onto the plate.
- The tart is now ready to serve.
