Apple Pie – Treat

Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith apples work best)
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 double pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel, core and slice the apples. Place in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and salt to the mixing bowl. Stir well so that all the apples are coated in the mixture. Set the bowl aside.
  4. Unroll the pie crust on a lightly floured surface. Place it into a 9-inch glass pie dish. Trim the edges so that it hangs over the edge of the dish by 1/2 inch.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust. Dot the top of the pie with the butter.
  6. Place the second pie crust on top of the apples. Trim the edges so that it fits the pie dish. Cut slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Brush the top of the pie with milk.
  8. Bake the pie for 50-60 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. If needed, cover the edges of the crust loosely with foil to prevent over-browning.
  9. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool before slicing.

Verdict:

This classic apple pie recipe is a crowd-pleaser. The sweet and spiced apple filling is perfectly balanced by the flaky, buttery crust. It’s the perfect treat for a fall evening or Thanksgiving dessert.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the apple pie hot or cold with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. It’s also delicious on its own with a cup of coffee or tea.
