Tiramisu with Chocolate Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso, cooled
  • 24-30 ladyfingers
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup grated chocolate

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well combined.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it just comes to a simmer.
  3. Slowly whisk the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture.
  4. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon (approximately 5-7 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and let cool.
  6. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  7. Add the mascarpone cheese to the cooled egg yolk mixture and beat until smooth. Then, gently fold in the whipped cream.
  8. Dip the ladyfingers in the cooled coffee or espresso briefly (do not soak, or they will become too soggy).
  9. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of an 8×8 inch dish.
  10. Spoon half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  11. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the rest of the mascarpone mixture.
  12. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (preferably overnight).
  13. Before serving, sift the cocoa powder over the top of the tiramisu and sprinkle with grated chocolate.
